Why? To urge members of the public to call on the Government not to build more incinerators and to increase recycling targets.

The Government recently published its national waste strategy for the next five years, which as well as setting out woefully unambitious targets for recycling and composting, allows for up to 50 new incinerators to built in England.

The public has until 9th May to respond to the proposals, so on Saturday 4th March, Manchester Friends of the Earth campaigners asked people in the city centre to send letters to the Government saying that they do not want any new incinerators to be built.

We got over 50 people to sign letters and Labour MP for Manchester Central, Tony Lloyd (pictured above), stopped by to show his support for the campaign.
