About Manchester FoE

Manchester Friends of the Earth is an an award winning environmental campaign group working on issues relating to the environment and to social justice. We campaign on issues with a local connection, and also lobby for policy changes at the local, regional, national and international levels. We work on a diverse range of issues including  food, sustainable transport and waste & recycling. We have won a number of Earthmover awards including the 2006 Love Your Bike Campaign and the Longsight Project, and in 2010 MFoE campaigner Ali Abbas was awarded FoE campaigner of the year award.

The group consists entirely of volunteers, and our campaigns are funded entirely by membership, individual donations and grants. We always welcome new supporters and active members. Become part of a group that is successfully campaigning to improve our city and our world and get involved!

Exploring the threat of killer asteroids in Hawaii, tracking hatching turtles along the Florida coast, and rescuing injured birds on Chicago streets, Cheney unravels the myriad implications of a globe glittering with lights – including increased breast cancer rates from exposure to light at night, and a generation of kids without a glimpse of the universe above. Featuring stunning astrophotography and a cast of eclectic scientists, The City Dark is the definitive story of light pollution and the disappearing stars: http://www.thecitydark.com
